Integrating Student Support into the Developmental Education Classroom

CMC has implemented the state required developmental education redesign since 2011. A component of the redesign includes incorporating psychosocial skills centered around student success. Prior to the 2016-17 school year, CMC had not implemented this component within the developmental educational courses. Learn about the steps taken by the Spring Valley and Glenwood campuses to incorporate a college counselor who presented success skill workshops to the students enrolled in the CCR courses. Lessons learned and an invitation to be part of a larger study will be discussed.
This session is appropriate for faculty who teach developmental education courses and student affairs staff interested in being part of the classroom and providing proactive intervention.

The Care & Feeding of Your Creativity
When we think about wellness, we often focus on the body…both inside and outside. Getting exercise, building muscle, eating the right foods, healing our bodies after illness or injury. But, for true health, we need to have a holistic approach, one that incorporates Body, Mind and Spirit. Those last two reside in our hearts and in our authentic voice. And, one of the best ways to get in touch with our authentic voice is to cultivate our creativity. Creativity can be expressed through art and music and crafts, but at its core, it’s more. Creativity is a way of looking at your world, finding solutions that work for you, thinking differently, seeing things with your unique eyes and giving something of yourself back. It is a relationship between you and the Universe. And, it is a skill that can be practiced, a muscle that can be exercised and strengthened. In this presentation, we will talk about creativity, about how important creativity is, and how you can start being more creative right now…today.
